NorCal Student Leadership Scholarship

Purpose

The purpose of the NorCal WESTOP Leaders’ Scholarship is to assist a NorCal TRiO student/graduate in emerging as a leader in our community. This opportunity is scheduled for March 9th -11th in Washington, DC.

Award

One scholarship of up to $1,000.00 will be awarded to the recipient’s sponsoring program to help cover the costs associated with travel (transportation, lodging, food costs, etc..)

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled in or an alumnus of a /TRiO program
Applicants must be recommended by a current NorCal WESTOP member
Applicants must be attending high school or college full-time (unless graduated from college. If so, applicant cannot be employed by a TRiO program)

Please include a completed application form.

Personal Statement

      Please attach a personal statement (2 pages typed, double spaced, 12-point font) in
      which you describe a key difference TRiO programs have made in your
      your life. How has this difference influenced your educational pursuits? What would
      you say to someone to encourage continued funding TRiO Programs?

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Please include all coursework taken in high school or college.

Letter of recommendation

One letter of recommendation is required from a current NorCal WESTOP member. Recommendations should address not only the applicant's academic achievement and potential, but also his/her political awareness, leadership skills, and ability to communicate.
