Purpose
The purpose of the NorCal WESTOP TRiO Achievement Scholarship is to financially assist graduating high school seniors and/or current college students to further their education.
 
Awards
Scholarships of $500 will be awarded.  Award letters will be mailed in early June 2009.  Scholarship disbursements will be made upon submission of proof of enrollment.  Proof of enrollment must be a letter or class schedule endorsed by the registrar of the institution for the Fall term of 2009. 

Eligibility

• Must be currently enrolled in or graduate of a NorCal educational equity or TRiO program.
• Candidates must be recommended by a current NorCal WESTOP member.
• Candidates must be currently attending high school or college full-time.
• Each equity program can submit up to four applications for consideration.
• Original applications that meet the postmark deadline will be considered.  Faxed copies will not be considered.

Application Procedures

• Fill out the application form in legible handwriting or typing. Please use only the space provided.  Additional attachments will not be considered.
• Compose a thoughtful Personal Statement (up to 2 pages typed) that will help committee members learn about your personal history, goals and interests, what difference TRiO programs and or educational opportunity programs have made in your life, and obstacles/challenges you have faced and the ways you have overcome them. Please give information that demonstrates that you are the best candidate for this scholarship.
• Submit transcripts of all coursework completed up to this point. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
• Two letters of recommendation:  One letter must be from a current NorCal WESTOP member.  Recommendations should address the applicant’s potential to succeed in postsecondary education, unique personal characteristics, growth, and active participation in educational programs/TRiO programs, and need for financial assistance
