Central Calif. Chapter Report

1. Total current PAID membership, as of the December 8, 2006 Professional Development Conference is 29. 

CenCal Chapter has voted and approved the following dates/locations for its chapter meetings for 2007-2008

1. March 23rd @ Fresno City College
2. May 11 @West Hills-Coalinga
3. August 3rd @Fresno State
4. October meeting TBA *SLC/TRIO Day committee will call special meeting if need be
5. December 7 @ PDS –TBA
6. February 8th @ Bakersfield Stat

1. Brief Committee Objectives/Charges

      -All committees for the chapters currently have chairs as well as a new              President- Elect being voted in effective May 11th (Guillermina Martinez of CSU, Bakersfield SSS).  Previous President-Elect, Jose Diaz is now with the Southern Cal Chapter due to his new employment with UC Irvine. 

      -Currently the following committees have confirmed dates for their upcoming activities:  Summer Jam to be held at CSU, Bakersfield on June 29-30 and the Student Leadership/TRIO day will be held in conjunction with each other on October 20-21 at Fresno State. 

      -A proposed budget has been discussed at the last chapter meeting held on May 11th.  The current budget for the chapter is currently at $19,808 as of date.  * See attached

      -Goals for the chapter this year are as follows: 

1. Update of current CenCal website
2. Increase participation in Professional Development Conference
3. Increase membership
4. Obtain sponsorship as well as partnerships via local as well as outside business community organizations for chapter activities as well as WESTOP sponsored activities
5. Increase Fair Share contributions of chapter/individuals
6. Maintain scholarship award program for programs within chapter
7. Mentorship of new members into WESTOP goals and objectives
8. Obtain commitment from at least (2) members from chapter to attend policy seminar in Washington D.C in 2008
9. Maintain adherence to approved budget of Chapter *Pending approval of Board and Chapter members.

1. Other Chapter Updates

                -     Student Leadership Conference for 2006-2007 fiscal year
                       cancelled for April 21, 2007 due to committee issues and lack
                       of leadership leading up to the event.  Original date had been
                       set for March 31, 2007

1. Chapter approved the conference fee waiver for Stephen Domingues for PDS 2007 in the March 23rd, 2007 meeting. 

1. Chapter members have been forwarded info via the listserv regarding the current budget crisis of WESTOP.  All members have been encouraged to submit suggestions either directly to Joy Brittain or via the Chapter President on ways to remedy our current situation.

1.  Chapter participation for May 14th COE Conference call regarding State and Congressional Support for Federal programs.  *See attached notes from CenCal member, Ginna Beardin (Fresno City College).
