University of Nevada at Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada

President:                        Elvie Tyler
President-Elect:            Huan Hosei
Past-President:                        Leonard Woods
Secretary:                        Vernice Rechebei
Treasurer:                        Lovelynn Mongami

  1. PI Chapter Executive Board held its first meeting under the direction of President Elvie Tyler on August 12, 2008.  The first 2008-2009 PIC Members meeting via PEACESAT (polycom) will occur on August 20, 2008 (Hawaii date).  PIC is scheduled to hold a strategic planning meeting prior to and following the APR training on Guam, August 29, 2008.
  2. The PIC fulfilled its commitment to provide $2,000 in support of the 2008 WESTOP Conference held at the Marriott Waikoloa on the Big Island, April 6-9, 2008.
  3. Following the expenditure of $2,000 in support of the 2008 WESTOP Conference, awarding the $1,000 PIC Student Scholarship and paying other Chapter related expenses, the Savings Account balance is $35,030.64 and Checking Account balance is $2,948.50.
  4. PIC President, Elvie Tyler, is taking steps to reorganizing the PI Chapter to make certain PI is represented and participating on all critical WESTOP committees
  5. PIC continues to explore the possible acquiring its own 501(c)3 status, but is proceeding cautiously.
  6. The PIC membership is requesting detailed information about the length of the WESTOP Cvent contract and continues to view it as a service that will not be used by PIC members.
  7. In reviewing the PIC Report to WESTOP, dated 05/19/07, PIC members made it clear they would not approve earmarking an additional $2000 to cover PIC President to travel to WESTOP Board meeting in Palau.  One PIC member stated that, at the Monterey Conference “Meeting of the Members”, the Board was charged to provide full travel support for Board members, which was later implemented.
  8. PIC members continue to discuss what they need and expect from WESTOP and what PIC will be responsible to do for its own members.
  9. The PIC is in the process of preparing for the next TRIO Day Celebration, the fourth Saturday of February, 2009, on Oahu.  The governor and/or lt. governor are expected to be in attendance.
  10. PIC President-Elect, Huan Hosei, is a candidate for the Republic of Palau Congress.  If elected, Huan proposes to fulfill his PIC responsibilities along with his legislative responsibilities.

Respectfully presented on behalf of PIC President Elvie Tyler by Leonard Woods
