Arizona Chapter

November 18, 2006

Chapter President:   Michelle McKelvey

Chapter Officers:

            Secretary:  Sara Elliott                   

Chapter Description:  The purpose of the Chapters is to  bring together WESTOP Members on a geographical basis to articulate and act upon issues and concerns of their Membership within the purpose, objectives, and functions of WESTOP as expressed in Article II, Sections 2.1 and 2.2 (Article III, Section 3.2).

Chapter Updates:

  • Last Chapter meeting was held on September 1, 2006 in Tucson, AZ.
    • The Chapter voted not to work in conjunction with Freedom Forums at this time
    • The organizational chart was presented.  The Past-President was not a part of the Arizona structure.  We will begin including the Past-President in the organizational structure.
    • Anita Blanco, Education and Legislation Chair, applied for the COE State Initiatives Grant on behalf of the Arizona Chapter.
      • The Chapter voted to move money from the TRIO Luncheon to match the grant if awarded; minus $200 promised from the WESTOP Legislation and Education Director.
  • We held the Arizona TRIO Leadership Conference November 2-4, 2006 in Prescott at Anytown Camp. 
    • 90-100 pre-college and college participants were in attendance.
  • The Arizona Chapter was awarded a $1000 State Initiatives Grant from COE.
  • Our next Chapter meeting will be November 29, 2006 in Phoenix.
  • Balance:  $19,574.88 (does not include TLC transactions)

Action Items:

  • Request to move $800 from the Arizona TRIO Day Luncheon to the Education and Legislation Committee to match COE Grant funds.
