Committee Description:
The Legislation and Education Committee shall inform the membership and the Board on relevant issues and mobilize efforts to proactively respond to regional and national legislative and educational issues.

Committee Activities:
- Assembling follow-up association wide monthly web newsletter “The Leg/Ed Know-It-All” for after the November elections (pushed back from September) to address multiple issues including:
- Immigration legislation follow-up: what happens next?
- Senate Appropriations for TRIO programs after the election
- Any other pertinent leg/ed news concerning new legislation, state initiatives, and the calendar year, along with shake up of respective House and Senate Ed committee’s
Utilizing new edition to follow up on Leg/Ed committee update distributed in mid-September for Leg/Ed chairs.
- Following up with Communications committee to develop informational brochures and reference guides to TRIO programs in the region (by chapter, by program type, state, and region) (proposed to complete by November 30 – pushed back from September 30).
- Revise and update WESTOP Blueprint for Action with Communications committee by end of November (pushed back from August 30).
- Revising material and reference resources for assembly of region wide advocacy program to include local action plans and how-to guides, along with calendar of action (end of November from September) to be rolled out during Fall/Winter at regional PDS events. Debuted at NorCal PDS (needs refinement and adjustments).
- Continuing outreach with Sen. Boxer’s office (w/ Ken Songco) to inform of proposed priorities and grant application changes.
- After awarding of State Initiative Grant, continuing work with Romeo Garcia and Jose Martinez-Saldaña in developing CA state pre-college program summitt (determining requirements, creating invitee list, identifying goals, etc.). Assisting Arizona team with their State Initiative Grant follow-up.
- Continuing making contact with leg/ed committees in fellow regional associations to learn and exchange information, strategies, etc., regarding the new challenges to TRIO.
- Planning means to ensure prompt, consistent surveying of Federal Register for information pertinent to TRIO.
