PRESIDENTS REPORT
WESTOP Board of Directors Meeting
June 2-3, 2003
Las Vegas, Nevada

COE Related

The BOD meeting was held in Austin, Texas May 9-10. WESTOP representatives in attendance were President Conwell, Past President Coin, and Immediate Past President Woods. President Elect Oda was unable to attend due to program functions.

The new Chair Elect of the Council is Charles A. Dyson from MAEOPP. The new Treasure is Lucy Jones from SWASAP and the returning Secretary is Barbara Burkhart from ASPIRE.

(Handout) The 22nd Annual conference entitled "Succeeding in a Global Society" will be held in San Diego California, September 28 to October 1st at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina. Confirmed speakers are, Edward James Olmos-Actor Director, Community Activist, Larry Oxendine-Director of Federal TRIO Programs and Dr. Arnold Mitchem-President of COE. See hand out for dates, rates, pre-conference workshops and tentative agenda.

(Handout) The conference committee is seeking additional help and has been given a contract to complete. President Elect Oda and President Conwell have selected BOD Members, Madison, Coin and Cardenas to fulfill the requests of the contract.

(Handout) 2003-2004 Meeting dates under the leadership of Bonnie Hall will be December 10-14 in Key West, Florida, May 5-9 in Aspen, Colorado and September 9-10 at the 23rd Annual conference to be held in San Antonio Texas. See handout for calendar of events.

(Handout) The Council has retained Ms. Jean M. Robinson Attorney at Law as the new Legal Representative for COE.

(Handout) The COE Corporate Development committee is seeking a replacement from WESTOP to serve on this committee.

WESTOP Related

(Handout) Upward Bound/McNair Competitions - Slates have been received for California and Arizona. Still in need of the slate for the Pacific Island. Nevada has reported Southern and Northern programs received continued funding. No word on when McNair and UBMS slates will be released. WESTOP will be working on an official letter of complaint to send to the Senators of the four states represented in our Region and will cc it to Larry Oxendine.

(Handout) 2004 Annual Conference - A decision will need to be made at this BOD meeting as to the next step in dealing with the ADA concerns of the Radisson.
