President’s Report

WESTOP Board of Director’s Meeting

August 18-19, 2006
Hilton East Phoenix/Mesa, Mesa, AZ

Association Updates:

  1. ETS and EOC slates have been released.  Does not appear to be a very bright picture as many existing ETS and EOC programs were not refunded.
  2. Many thanks to Rita Escher for heading up the ad hoc committee to develop regional comments regarding the SSS APR.  Comments were sent to ED and were forwarded to the membership.
  3. A second round to thanks to Sam Cortez who lead the ad hoc committee in the development of regional comments for the UB priority.  Comments were forwarded to ED and to the membership.  Unfortunately, regional comments were not able to be generated for the UB application by the August 14th deadline.
  4. COE has been very public about their concern regarding the UB priority and has asked TRiOland to voice their concern as well.
  5. COE was also greatly affected in the funding slate for the Training Grants.  Training opportunities provided by COE will be compromised unless more financial support is garnered.
  6. McNair Programs are organizing a national committee to bring issues facing the McNair programs to the national forefront.  The two members representing WESTOP will be Ms. Jeannine Slater and Mr. Gerald Bryant.
  7. COE Board Meeting, New York; September 4-6, 2006 at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.
  8. COE National Conference, September 6-9, 2006 at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.  I have been asked to chair the Table of Sales for the 2006 COE Annual Conference.  Will be soliciting volunteers from WESTOP to assist.

Action Items:

  1. Chapter Presidents please forward to the WESTOP President both ETS and EOC slates for your state by August 23rd include to your best knowledge any existing programs that were not funded.
  2. Each chapter is asked to secure a regional item for the WESTOP silent auction basket for the COE annual conference.  The item should be valued at least at $50.  If the Chapter President is not attending the COE conference please find a designee from your chapter to get the item to Lydia or Joy.  Chapter items should be given to Lydia or Joy by Wednesday, September 6th at 5pm.

Respectively submitted by:                        Lydia Perez
