Regional Activities
The WESTOP Board of Directors met in Las Vegas, Nevada June 2 3, 2003 at the Golden Nugget Casino located in Historical Downtown Las Vegas. Board members underwent comprehensive training on Board conduct, expectations and officer responsibilities that was facilitated by Ms. Deltha Q. Colvin from the Mo-Kan-Ne Chapter of the MAEOPP Region. Parliamentarian Procedures was lead by Ms. Tigress Osborn from the NorCal Chapter of WESTOP and Mr. Keith Hori from the NorCal Chapter presented the history of WESTOP.
Regional Concerns
WESTOP members continue to voice strong concerns in response to the Department of Education's $5,000 per-participant requirement.
Strategic Plan Activities/Accomplishments
Strategic Goal #1 and #2
The new Central California Chapter of WESTOP has 52 members. WESTOP
current membership stands at 575.
Since April of 2003, WESTOP has gained 3 members from the Southern part of
Nevada Chapter.
6 TRIO Day Events were held in the WESTOP Region.
Strategic Goal #2
WESTOP continues to move forward with the implementation of the State
Initiatives. The WESTOP Board's Public Relations Committee is working with
the State Presidents to implement activities in the Chapters.
The Communications Committee will continue to publish an on-line regional newsletter.
Strategic Goal #3
Steps have been taken by WESTOP's Research Committee to secure the Mathematica
research data on Upward Bound and researchers are being sought to analyze the
data and make recommendations.
Strategic Goal #4
With the devastating budget cuts in the state of California the WESTOP
Region was able to maintain last years 78 percentile towards Fair Share contributions.
Strategic Goal #5
WESTOP continues to support and promote TRIO ThinkQuest.
Strategic Goal #6
WESTOP continues to collaborate among its members and students on the
possibilities of student and staff exchanges within the WESTOP region.
