Regional Activities
The WESTOP Board of Directors met in Santa Clara, California, October
17-18 at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
Professional Development Seminars have been held in the Northern, Southern
and Central California Chapters.
The 2004 Annual Conference is taking shape and will be held in Tucson, Arizona
at the Radisson City Center, April 4 7, 2004.
Regional Concerns
WESTOP members continue to send letters of concerns to congressional
representatives and the Department of Ed. about the $5,000 per-participant
spending requirement.
HR3039 Members are continuing to write letters to their Congressional
Representative and to the Education and Workforce Committee about the importance
of Prior Experience Points.
Strategic Plan Activities/Accomplishments
Strategic Goal #1 and #2
WESTOP current membership stands at 581.
TRIO Day events are being planned for 2004 in all of the 6 WESTOP Chapters.
Strategic Goal #2
WESTOP continues to move forward with the implementation of the State
Initiatives. The WESTOP Board's Public Relations Committee is working with
the communications chair to create a more comprehensive WESTOP brochure that
can be used for legislative, new members and fund development purposes.
Chapters are continuing to work at the local levels and legislative workshops
have been held at the Northern, Southern, and Central California Professional
Development Seminars.
WESTOP's on-line regional newsletter will be published in December 2003.
Strategic Goal #3
Proper procedures have been followed and a request has been sent by Dr.
Harley Baker to secure the raw data used for the Mathematica report on Upward
Bound.
Strategic Goal #4
Fair Share information and workshops have been given at the Northern,
Southern and Central California Chapter meetings and Seminars. The campaign
has continued for the 2004 term.
Strategic Goal #5
WESTOP continues to support and promote TRIO ThinkQuest and to
improve the WESTOP Web Site.
Strategic Goal #6
WESTOP continues to discuss the possibilities of student and staff exchanges
within the WESTOP region and to informing members of the COE study abroad Programs.
